Some dahlia's twist and curl sending their petals out of the perfect unity of pattern that many dahlia's display. I love it when there's a variegation of color within these lively petals. This painting was part of a series of pink paintings for my "Persistence of Pink" show this spring in Anacortes, WA. The large scale of the macro view surrounds the viewer in a warm pink glow.
For the past few years I've been painting flowers up so close that they envelope the viewer in their sensuality and rich color. Enlarged, they become almost abstractions from nature without seeing the outer shape or the environment around them.
This watercolor is painted on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. It is framed with a a white metal contemporary frame. The original painting floats on and archival backing to reveal the full deckle edge of the heavy paper. A Certificate of Authenticity comes with the watercolor signed by Sandy Haight. The frame size is 39" x 31".

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
